aircon servicing
Regular aircon servicing means that your air conditioning remains fully functional, come summer or winter. Servicing keeps an aircon unit working efficiently and will help reduce electricity bills. Air filters can become clogged and condenser coils become dirty over time, making the aircon unit work harder and use more energy. Aircon units can lose up to 5% efficiency if not serviced annually. Even if your ac unit is not regularly used, it will still need servicing to ensure that it does run correctly when you need it.
It is also important to check F-Gas refrigerants levels and look for any possible leaks.
The cost of an air con service for your home or office will depend on the size and number of units and your location. For a free no obligation quotation, contact us.
Commercial air conditioning units are legally required to be serviced annually.
If your air conditioning unit is used a lot, it may be more cost effective to arrange an air con maintenance plan. This will ensure that your unit is always running at peak performance and will cover you in case of emergency repairs. We can tailor a maintenance plan to suit your home or business requirements, minimising any disruption. Common Air Conditioning Problems
If your aircon is not well maintained, you may notice some of the following issues:
Air flow is weak
Weak air flow can be caused by dirty or clogged filters, meaning that your unit is working harder, potentially resulting in higher energy bills. Over time, the hardworking unit may over heat and fail. Furthermore, as dirt and dust accumulates within the unit, it will settle on the coils and fan blades, causing extra weight and eventual damage to the fan motor.
Aircon unit leaking water
There are a number of reasons that an aircon unit will begin to leak, including blocked filters, buildup of frost which restricts the air flow, low refrigerant or loss of power within the system usually due to a fuse or breaker.
The buildup of algae can also block drainage within the unit. It’s best to treat this type of issue quickly, to prevent further issues with mould or mildew.
Air conditioning unit not cooling or heating
Blocked filters and the resulting restricted air flow can cause a loss of heating or cooling, in addition to electrical faults such as a faulty compressor or PCB.
A loss of refrigerant gas can be caused by a leak in the system, which is usually due to poor installation, damage, or wear and tear. These kinds of issues can have severe implications, especially businesses that rely on cooling, such as restaurants or cold stores, so this issue needs to be checked quickly.
Benefits of air conditioning servicing and maintenance
In addition to preventing issues with your air conditioning system, there are a number of other benefits that regular maintenance will provide:
Extended Lifespan
Just like your car, an air con system needs regular maintenance to ensure its performance and long life. Not dealing with issues will ultimately cause damage to the unit, which could cost more in the long run.
Increased Energy Efficiency
A poorly maintained system will be working harder and using more energy. Keeping your aircon unit well maintained will use considerably less energy to run.
Smaller Problems Equals Smaller Costs
If your aircon system is serviced regularly, it is more likely that only simple maintenance issues will arise, rather than larger problems that develop over time. When we service your aircon unit, we will provide you with a maintenance review that will help you avoid unexpected bills in future.
Better Performance
It may be fairly obvious, but a well maintained aircon system is one that will perform better. Having the optimum output of heat or cool air is important and especially so for commercial businesses, who need to create a comfortable environment for staff and clients.

Frequently asked questions
-
What areas do you cover? We cover Norfolk and Suffolk.
-
What size Air Conditioning unit do I need? This all depends on the space that you want to heat/cool. Please contact us and one of our engineers will visit your location to assess your requirements and suggest the best solution.
-
What do I get with an Air Conditioning system? You will receive an indoor and outdoor unit. The outdoor unit (the condenser) can either be hung on the wall or placed on the floor.
-
Do I have to get my Air Conditioning unit serviced? We suggest getting your Air Conditioning units serviced every year as this will keep your units running smoothly. Contact us to book your service today!
-
Where does the outdoor condenser get installed? The condenser can be either wall mounted or placed on the floor. We suggest having at least 1m spacing around the unit for optimal airflow.
-
For maximum cooling, when should I turn on start the air conditioner? From sunrise, the sun will immediately begin warming the brickwork in your building. You should therefore start the air conditioner approximately 2 hours before the sun begins to shine into the room. This will help to remove the heat from the brickwork, so when the sun also shines into the room, the unit is not struggling to remove heat from both the sun and from the brickwork.
-
How do I care for my air conditioner?Air conditioners should be considered for regular maintenance in the same way that you would service a boiler or heating system. A regularly used aircon unit should be serviced annually, but a rarely used unit can be serviced less often. At Cool Runnings we offer a full maintenance service. Regular servicing helps to prevent your unit breaking down, whilst keeping it at peak efficiency and reduces the energy cost of running the unit, whilst also increasing its life.
